Greengages fall Note Set is the summer 2026 edition of Poetry in Motion.
Poetry in Motion is a project born from the idea of celebrating the words of a poet, alongside the handwritten words of the sender, to explore what connections such a combination could spark. I love poems that evoke traditions and community, celebrate community and explore Irishness.
And of course, I am eternally interested in the tangible quality of receiving handwritten words on paper and their potential to reinforce bonds that have perhaps been diluted by time, technology, or many other reasons.
This edition’s poem is by poet Lynn Caldwell and celebrates the lush ripeness of summer. Canadian by birth but considered a Dubliner now after for many years living in Ireland, Lynn’s work has been published and featured in Poetry Ireland Review, The Irish Times and Sunday Miscellany to name but a few.
The lush range of pinks I saw in the garden, during the blast of heat we got in May, inspired a last minute change of heart for the colour combination of the set. Roses such as deep pink Zepherine Drouhin and Gertrude Jeykil, salmon pink oriental poppies, and gigantic magenta Foxgloves reminded me of the prettiness of pink.

Each set is hand-cut, folded and personalised by Mundy Walsh in Kilkenny, using local and sustainably sourced products as much as possible.

Greengages fall
Sweekly, sticky –
you beg strangers to take them,
pass paper bags humming with summer’s
bee-song, the bottoms tearing away
as the season is already changing,
leaves getting ready to fly,
as the fruit drops downwards
into open palms.
